July 21, 2018 | Red Deer, AB – Day three of Westerner Days Fair & Exposition saw 20,325 guests take in the sights, smells and thrills of our annual Fair
The Washboard Union, River Town Saints and The Dean Ray Band, sponsored by Real Country 93.3 and Real Country 95.5, took over the TD Main Stage last night to put on an exhilarating show for 3,400 fans.
The Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships were on its third day yesterday as crowds filled the stadium to the brim in the sunshine. Friday night’s race goers saw Reed Rosencrans, sponsored by The Pipe Yard came in first place with 77.15 seconds, while second and third place was split between split Jack Stott, sponsored by The Home Place, and Mike Motowylo, sponsored by Cherry Hill Auctions, with a time of 77.52. In fourth place we had John Stott, sponsored by Go Uncle Bens RV, with a time of 77.56.
Average scores from the past three days has Reed Rosencrans, sponsored by The Pipe Yard, in the lead with 233.61 seconds and Jack Stott in second place, sponsored by The Home Place at 235.23 seconds. John Stott, sponsored by Go Uncle Bens RV, is in third place overall with his 235.85 seconds and in fourth place we have Marvin Hubl, sponsored by MNP LLP, with 236.43 seconds. The final qualifying heat of races take place this evening, Saturday, July 21 at 6pm, with finals being held tomorrow, Sunday, July 22 at 2pm.
Friday evening also saw the first chariot races. Bob Leach, sponsored by Ironstone Services, Ohaton, came in first place, with a time of 75.90 seconds, while Marty Maxwell, sponsored by Prairie Water & Equipment Rentals, took home second place with his 75.91 seconds. Allan Bengtson, sponsored by Losness Drilling/Viking Auction Mart, and with a time of 76.57 finished in third place while Adam Waldner, sponsored by Caltech Diesel Inc., came in fourth, with a time of 76.65. The second and final qualifying heat of chariot races will happen at 5pm this evening, while finals will take place on Sunday, July 22 at 1pm.
Tonight’s TD Main Stage show features Dear Rouge, Virginia to Vegas and The Randi Boulton Band, sponsored by Big 105.5 and X100.7. Fair-goers can get free reserved floor seating by going to the Tickets Alberta Box Office 90 minutes before the concert starts. These tickets are free with admission. Doors will open at 7pm, with the concert kicking off at 8pm.
Fair-goers were in high spirits as they celebrated the many Westerner Days attractions in the sunshine. Hundreds of kids had a ball at the Saputo Kids Corral, where face painting, crafts, and balloon animals were favourites. The bouncy castles in the Funhaus Inflatables area has guests of all ages discovering their inner child, and the Central Alberta Co-op Family Stage had Doo Doo the Clown making spectators smile from ear to ear. The Sunny Family Fun Zone is sponsored by Sunny 94.
