Over 30,000 people lined the streets of downtown Red Deer to enjoy the decorated floats, collector vehicles, local celebrities, marching bands and livestock entries as they meandered through the heart of Red Deer.
The Parade had 140 entries participate this year, surpassing last year’s numbers. The winner of the Grand Award was the incredible float made by Blue Grass Nursery, Sod and Garden Centre. Winners of each category and the honourable mention will be announced tomorrow, Thursday, July 19.
The three winners of the Westerner Days Best Dressed Business Contest was GoAuto, Expedia CruiseShipCenters and Milano For Men. The honourable mention went to Mission Thrift Store Thank you to everyone who participated and dressed up their business to celebrate Westerner Days.
This year’s Westerner Days theme brings us back to our western roots, and in celebration of our theme, Fair attendees can win Grub Hub cash by dressing in their finest western wear. By using free access to Shaw Go WiFi and posting to social media using the hashtag #MyWDExperience, fair-goers will get an additional chance to win, sponsored by Plato’s Closet. Winners will be notified via social media that same day.
This year, the Grub Hub features over 25 food vendors that are available on-site with some new culinary treats being offered, sponsored by rdnewsNOW. From colossal onions and deep fried ice cream to the more traditional mini donuts and mac’n’cheese, there is something for everyone!
Tonight, Wednesday, July 18, TD Main Stage will feature Aaron Pritchett, Aaron Goodvin and Alecia Aichelle, presented by Real Country 95.5 and Real Country 93.3. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with concert starting at 8:00 pm. Enjoy this free show with your gate admission.
